grilled chicken and pineapple sandwiches with wasabi mayo

Was-aaaa-bi… Mayo, that is.

I’m a huge fan of wasabi. When I was in my wild n’ crazy 20′s I worked at a local sushi bar and absolutely fell in love with the stuff.

I distinctly recall serving a scoop of it in dessert cup under the guise of green tea ice cream to an obnoxiously drunk guest one night. Happy birthday, free dessert!

He threw up, we had a good laugh, I got a stern ‘talking to’ by the manager, all in all a pretty successful shift. This is me, allowing you a brief look at my darker side.

Back to the wasabi at hand. It’s spicy, but in such a good way. Especially when you mix it with mayo, yogurt, garlic and ginger then slather it on a bun as a spicy (yet cool) cohort to this guy:

yogurt raisin risotto (Chonky’s risotto)

There is nothing more frustrating than spending time preparing a meal that just sits on a melamine rocket shaped plate for three hours, changing colors until it’s indistinguishable, because someone is as stubborn as a mule when it comes to food.

Lucky for me, I have one little foodie in training who will open wide for pretty much anything I come up with.  And this Saturday morning experiment turned out to be one of Chonker’s favorites so far.

cheesy dog biscuits (a treat for man’s best friend)

Idle hands are the devil’s playthings. I do believe that applies to every idle-handed minute in our house for a certain 3 year old.

So I’m constantly on the look-out for busy work to assign my little buddy. He likes to call it ‘danger work.’ For the most part, a very fitting description.

Insert heavy sigh here.

Often times, the victim of the danger work is this guy:

Which is why once in a while he deserves a special treat.
